They’re also rich in probiotics, protein and calcium, which makes them a great healthy breakfast idea for growing children.

For the Base:

Choice of Toppings:

  • Sliced banana or apple
  • Frozen mixed berries
  • Dried fruit

Egg in a Hole Breakfast Bagels

Egg-filled breakfast bagels are a fun, easy spin on eggs on toast. Packed full of protein, healthy fats and carbs, they’ll help to keep your kids the energy they need to take them through to lunch time.

What You’ll Need

Serves 4

  • 3-4 plain bagels*
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 4 eggs
  • Salt and pepper to taste

*This recipe is intended to serve two adults and two children, so if your kids may only have the appetite for half a bagel each.

How to Make Egg Bagels

Start by cutting the bagels in half. If the hole is particularly small, use a knife to carve out a little more space. Next, heat a pan over medium heat and add ½ a tbsp of butter. Once melted, place the bagel halves face down in the pan.

Carefully crack an egg into the centre of each bagel and season with a sprinkle of salt and pepper.. Don’t worry too much if they run out slightly!  Place a lid on the pan and cook for about three minutes or until the eggs are cooked through. Remove from the pan using a spatula and serve immediately.

Top Tip: Finish with a splash of hot sauce or ketchup for extra flavour!
